It’s halfway folks! 40 days
done!
Do I appear slimmer yet?
Still not. But I have enjoyed all the malteaser teasers I’ve been eating. And I
know my abs of steel are building slowly underneath that layer of goodness.
More importantly, have I
tried a whole array of fun Fitivities? I’m not sure if that word is actually
catching on… but, yep indeed!
And most importantly, are
there lots more Fitivities still to try? Absolutely! Bikram Yoga is the winner
of the poll last week and the class is coming up tomorrow, next week looks like
Barrecore will be the winner, followed closely by Anti-Gravity yoga. Check out
the Hitlist for more to come - there’s probably around 25 left on the Hitlist,
so please leave a suggestion in the comments box if you can think of something
else try (or a particularly cool place to try something)! For those sticklers,
I know I am missing a post form Day 10, I’ve not forgotten. It’ll come, don’t
you worry your little cotton socks.
So, back to the Today Doc. I
stumbled across the Fit-For-A-Princess outdoor women’s workout website last
week which immediately filled me with a feeling of cheeriness and girl power.
From the website’s girly pink theme to the enthusiastic pictures and
testimonials from other ladies’, it emits a “Go strong women!” vibe! And the
vibe happily continues at the class itself. I joined the outdoor bootcamp at
Primrose Hill, led by the ever-smiley Instructor Debra. It was a small class
today with myself and 3 other ladies but unsurprisingly so, as it was an
off-peak 09.30am class and Instructor Debra did mention that pre-work 6.15am
classes are usually busier. In this case, I actually found it lovely to be a
small group - the others in the group (Chloe, Louise and Jo) were all (pretty
fit!) mummies and extremely friendly. A couple had been training with
Instructor Debra for almost a year, even through the winter, regardless of
snow, ice or rain! Dedication indeed ladies - go strong women!
The class started with a
simple warm-up involving knees up and kicking feet to the bum before moving
onto a series of floor-based exercises (press-ups, planks, mountain climbers,
crunches, more mountain climbers (so mean but a goodie!)) with alternating
moving exercises to nearby trees whether it be jogging, walking lunges,
side-stepping or skipping (which, took me back to being a little girl!).
The most obvious best thing
about this class is the casual, friendly atmosphere. Instructor Debra will push
you (water breaks are short ‘n’ sweet and there’s very little stationary time)
but not in an obvious or aggressive way. And as the stats pleasantly showed,
you can still burn a lot of calories without necessarily knowing it! 301
calories over 54 minutes takes the calories-burnt-per-minute figure (5.6) to 5th
place overall, behind only Tennis (Day 4), Boxing (Day 16), Princess Warrior
(Day 13 Edinburgh Special) and the Nike x Frame Run Club (Day 7). A close 6th
place is the Sweaty Betty outdoor bootcamp (Day 31) and 7th is the
Nike Training Club (Day 26). In fact, looking at that, bootcampy style classes
are doing pretty well overall so don’t knock those non-stop start jumps and
lunges!
