Day 1 ! "Fatcamp" Day 1

I'm too hungry to write. That's not strictly true, if I listen to my body, I am not actually hungry, I am just craving unnecessary food. Bad toxins. It's mind over matter, says Galia. And she is one wise lady...But I still want a chocolate, preferably a Lindt ball. Just one.

So what better way to start 80 days of fitness than with a "detox, fitness and weight loss" retreat with two good friends, Miss E and Miss R, with whom the retreat quickly became commonly referred to as "Fatcamp"?

Firstly, you should know that this place is beautiful. A large Georgian country house with plentiful rooms and an in-house basement spa, all managed by the lovely, though stern, Galia. By far the most spectacular place in the house is the stunning white "meditation" conservatory, tastefully furnished with white leather loungers and sofas and facing out onto the pool and fields.

Today's Food: Hot water and lemon (that counts), glass of grapefruit juice for breakfast, trio of salad for lunch, a few spoonfuls of fruit salad (afternoon snack) and a hot vegetable medley for dinner.

Today's Activity: Good ol' fashioned country's walk (forestry, cow fields and tracks all included. Walking boots required). Stats for the walk provided at the end! Hour-long outdoor fitness class with boxing, squats and lunges (and there is a studio indoors for drearier days). Hour of yoga, also outdoors where saluting the actual Sun is much more fun.

After the classes and lunch, the afternoon is free for spa treatments, relaxation and/or extra walks if one is feeling energetic.

On the food, the lunch and fruit salad were delicious but portions are small. By the time it gets to dinner, you'll eat almost anything and at the very least, you know it's full of vitamin goodness. Personally, I thought dinner was pretty decent but there were some unfinished plates around. The food quantity will almost certainly be a shock to most but this is a weight-loss retreat after all. And Galia is very understanding - she will push you to stick to the programme (it is the way for maximum results) but will happily give you a (mini) bowl of porridge for brekkie, some "magic pick-me-up raisins" or an apple quarter throughout the day or a boiled egg with a meal if requested.

It's getting on 9pm so bedtime methinks...my stomach has grumbled a few times since dinner but its been overly spoilt recently anyway. After day 1, you will be tired, most certainly hungry and probably won't see any difference in appearance (yet, one hopes). I can survive 3 days of this, right? Most ppl stay for at least a week...

Today's Stats (for walk only)

- Distance covered: 10.91km (Elevation: 128m)
- Total Time: 2hrs 02mins (Moving Time: 1hr 55mins - shoelace tying?)

- Max Heart Rate: 140bpm (there was a tasty hill)

Quote of the Day: (from Miss R) @8pm - I want a pizza. Why is it still light? I want to go to sleep.
